Drogheda Wolves U12 Arctic Boys maintained their good form with a dominant 53-15 victory over Blackwater Steelers in an away fixture at the weekend.
The match was a showcase of strong team play, with every player contributing to a comprehensive win. From the start, they set the tone with fast-paced offence and a well-organised defence. Kris Grievys and Majus Zuzevicius led the charge in scoring, with Kris making key baskets from all areas of the court and Majus displaying great finishing ability.
On the defensive side, Oscar Chmiel, Sonny A Forrest, Will Hallinan and Alex Doherty were standout performers as they worked tirelessly to shut down any potential scoring opportunities for the Steelers.
Oscar’s quick reactions, Will’s tenacious guarding and Alex’s strategic positioning all helped limit Blackwater’s chances, allowing the Wolves to build a solid lead.
Meanwhile, after a delayed start due to the travelling team getting a bit lost, Drogheda Wolves U14 Arctic Girls defeated Newry Fliers 39-22 in a BNI League clash.
Both teams started strong and Wolves were ahead by just a point at the end of the first quarter, with Leire Diaz, Laoise Carr, Levona Subin and Amyah Ndoma all prominent.
A fresh set of players brought new energy and Wolves pulled away with the help of three baskets in a row from Moya Rogan and fine scoring efforts from Karina Kopylova and Orlagh Toner.
Wolves pushed on with numerous steals from both Emily and Leire in the third quarter, and the latter ended up being the Drogheda side’s top scorer of the day.
In the final quarter Newry Fliers were not giving up and they started strong, but Wolves’ defence worked hard and Orlagh found the basket with some lovely shots.
DROGHEDA WOLVES: Amyah Ndoma, Anna Grennan, Laoise Carr, Karina Kopylova, Emily McWeeney, Levona Subin, Heather McColgan, Leire Diaz, Moya Rogan, Orlagh Toner.
